BUSY deserves a place on the shortlist when accounting, billing and inventory are the core requirement. Evaluate Odoo when the decision also includes connected procurement, factory or project operations. BUSY already documents batch and expiry inventory controls, so the question is whether the proposed edition handles your complete workflow—not whether it has inventory at all.

Evaluate wider ERP
The missing control sits between teams: purchase permissions, production consumption, site receipts or approvals. Require a demonstration with roles, not only an administrator account.

Delay the switch
Stock masters, units or opening balances are unreliable. Clean and reconcile them first; a new application does not repair inconsistent records by itself.
Put the decision in writing
Use the same requirements for every proposal. Record what is included, what needs validation and who owns unresolved work.

Make inventory valuation a buying test
Take a purchase received in two deliveries with different landed costs. Sell part of the stock, return some and close the period. Have finance and the warehouse owner explain the quantity and value remaining. A feature checklist will not show whether the configuration matches your costing policy or whether users can repair errors safely. Ask for the reconciliation report as an acceptance deliverable.
Compare work at the counter and away from it
A distribution business may need fast billing at the counter while supervisors approve purchases remotely. Measure the actual tasks with realistic permissions and a representative transaction set. Include printing, barcode devices and weak-connectivity scenarios if they matter. Do not promise remote or offline behaviour without testing the particular deployment and devices in the quote.
Make the first phase small enough to own
Choose a bounded location or process only after checking dependencies with finance and stock. Identify who cleans item masters, validates tax mappings, trains users and approves opening balances. A phased approach still needs complete controls inside its boundary. Can we move all BUSY history into Odoo?
Do not assume a full-history import. Review export formats, document relationships, volume and audit needs before deciding between transaction migration and a readable archive.
Is a larger ERP always the better purchase?
No. Additional scope brings implementation and change-management costs. Buy the controls the business needs and can maintain.
