Odoo 18 brings a powerful and user-friendly manufacturing module that helps businesses manage every stage of their production process with ease. In this tutorial, we'll take you through the full manufacturing lifecycle of a product in Odoo 18, step by step.
What You'll Learn:
- Creating a product for manufacturing
- Setting up a Bill of Materials (BOM)
- Configuring operations and work centers
- Executing and monitoring production orders
- Using the Shop Floor app
Step 1: Create a Product
To manufacture an item in Odoo, begin by creating a product record. In this example, we'll create a "Table" product. First, check the stock count to verify the product is not available in the company's stock.
Step 2: Create a Bill of Materials (BOM)
Navigate to the Manufacturing module and select Products > BOM to create a Bill of Materials.
BOM Configuration
| Field | Description |
|---|---|
| Product | The finished product (e.g., Table) |
| BOM Type | Manufacture this Product, Kit, or Subcontracting |
| Quantity | Number of units to manufacture |
| Components | List of materials required (e.g., table leg, table top, screws, bolts) |
Operations Tab
In the Operations tab, you can define the manufacturing steps:
- Operation Name: Name of the manufacturing step
- Work Center: Where the operation takes place
- Apply on Variant: Limit to specific product variants
- Duration Computation: How to calculate operation time
Miscellaneous Tab - Manufacturing Readiness
When All Components Available
Production starts only after every required component is fully available
When First Operation Components Available
Production can start as soon as materials for the first operation are ready
Flexible Consumption Options
- Restricted: No extra component usage allowed
- Allowed: Extra consumption permitted freely
- Allowed with Warning: Extra consumption allowed but displays an alert
